GM Brian Cashman is looking to strengthen the Yankees' rotation, and free agent Dallas Keuchel has no problem envisioning himself in pinstripes in 2019 and beyond.
When Keuchel was asked during a recent interview on the Fox Business Network if it's true that he's talking to the Yankees, Keuchel wasn't hesitant about the potential "lure" of New York.
"I think everybody is in play right now," Keuchel said. "The lure of the city would be really cool. I like pitching in Yankee Stadium."
Keuchel was then asked about his beard, with the Fox host reminding him about the Yankees' facial hair rules.
"For the right opportunity, I would happily shave this beard off," Keuchel said. "It's all about winning. I've made that very clear from Day 1 of my career starting to this position right now."
Keuchel, who turns 31 years old in January, had a 3.74 ERA (3.69 FIP) and 1.31 WHIP in 204.2 innings (34 starts) this past season for the Astros.
2018 was a relatvely down year for Keuchel, whose ERA's from 2014 to 2017 were 2.93, 2.48, 4.55, and 2.90 respectively.
A look at Keuchel's advanced numbers in 2018 shows that his velocity was right around his career norms, as was his walk rate and HR/9 rate. One thing that ticked up was his hard hit rate, which was 28.1 percent in 2018 after being 24.7 percent in 2017.
He has a career 2.45 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 35 strikeouts and eight walks in five career regualar season starts (33 innings) at Yankee Stadium. There was also the 2015 Wild Card game, where Keuchel tossed six shutout innings to help the Astros eliminate the Yankees.
