Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez told the New York Post that he never had any issues with former manager Joe Girardi and that the two got along well.
"I always got along with Joe," Sanchez said through an interpreter after an autograph signing in New Jersey on Saturday. "I appreciate everything Joe did for me."
Sanchez was benched by Girardi in August because of concerns regarding his defense.
On Saturday, Sanchez said he got over the benching rather quickly and it never became an issue within the locker room.
"I left that in the past," Sanchez said. "I never took anything he did personally and knew he was trying to make me a better player."
As he tries to build a new working relationship, Sanchez met with new Yankees manager Aaron Boone on Friday evening. The catcher said the meeting went well, according to the report, and that he expects to have a 'strong relationship' with Boone.
