More reinforcements are on the way from the IL for the Yankees.
The team announced on Sunday, ahead of the team's 8 p.m. matchup against the Red Sox, that Gio Urshela is coming off the 10-day IL and Thairo Estrada will be reinstated as well.
Urshela has been out since Aug. 30 after suffering a groin strain. Those injuries are always tricky to work with, so the Yankees were cautious with him here.
It is a shame that Gio did go down, though, because he had a shot at the AL batting title if he were to consistenly play for the rest of the season. He comes back with a stellar .331/.370/.555 slash line with 18 homers, 67 RBI, and a .924 OPS. Manager Aaron Boone will definitely love seeing him back in the lineup.
Estrada comes back for some more infield depth after recovering from a right hamstring strain. In his first season with the Yanks, the 23-year-old has posted a .246/.283/.456 slash line with three homers, three doubles and 11 RBi over 28 games.
