Greg Bird is back with the Yankees, and will hit sixth during Saturday's contest against the Mariners.
As it was announced after Friday's game 1B Tyler Austin was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Bird was heading to New York to make his return.
Bird has been on the DL since May 21 as he continued to battle an ankle bruise.
"It's been long, interesting, unique journey," Bird told the NY Daily News. "I'm glad to be back now."
Bird has been hitting well in Triple-A as he is 9-for-24 (.375) with three homers, two doubles and six RBI in eight games.
