First baseman Greg Bird (ankle) will be reevaluated Thursday and he could be back with the Yankees as early this Friday, according to multiple reports.
Bird has been rehabbing with Triple-A Scranton, is scheduled to play another full game at first base Thursday. Since restarting his assignment with the RailRiders, Bird has recorded eight hits in seven contests.
"You figure things out when they happen," manager Joe Girardi said. "That's my job. Obviously, if everyone stays healthy -- and if you're producing -- you're gonna play. We're gonna find ways for you to play."
The first baseman, who suffered an ankle injury in Spring Training, has been out of the Major League lineup since May 1. Before landing on the disabled list, Bird was just 6-for-60.
