On Wednesday night, the 2019 MLB season came to an end with the Washington Nationals beating the Houston Astros in seven games in the World Series. Fans already looking forward to next season can now place their bets for the 2020 World Series winner.
According to DraftKings, the Yankees open with +550 odds to win the 2020 World Series.
They are tied with the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Dodgers for the best odds to win it all next season.
Coming off of a 103-win season and an ALCS appearance, the Yankees will have their sights set on winning the 2020 World Series.
As for the rest of the AL East, the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays both have +2000 odds to win the 2020 World Series, while the Toronto Blue Jays have +10,000 odds. The Baltimore Orioles have the worst odds at +50,000.
Of course, these odds are subject to change in the coming months with free agency starting officially on November 4.
The Yankees have eight players from the 2019 team that are free agents: Dellin Betances, Edwin Encarnacion, Brett Gardner, Cory Gearrin, Didi Gregorius, Cameron Maybin, Austin Romine, and CC Sabathia. Closer Aroldis Chapman may also become a free agent if he decides to opt out of the final two years of his five-year, $86 million deal.
Sabathia is now retired, despite saying he would've came back for the 2020 season if it weren't for injuring his shoulder in Game 4 of the ALCS.
The Yankees could easily become the clear favorite to win the 2020 World Series if the team signs former Houston Astros ace Gerrit Cole. The right-hander is expected to sign a massive contract, which could be worth up to $33-35 million per season over seven years. The Yankees are viewed as the third-likeliest team to sign Cole, with +450 odds, behind the Los Angeles Angels (+300) and Philadelphia Phillies (+400).
With $154.6 million already committed to payroll for the 2020 season, it will be an interesting winter for GM Brian Cashman and the Yankees.
