Yankees manager Aaron Boone met with the media in Tampa, Fla. on Saturday and provided updates on a litany of banged-up players.
Giancarlo Stanton (right calf strain), who appeared in just 18 games last season, will resume baseball activities Saturday. Boone said Stanton will be throwing along with doing some tee-and-toss work. General manager Brian Cashman has said that he is "unlikely" to be ready for Opening Day.
Gary Sanchez has played in the last two games and has a sore back, according to Boone. The catcher did not take batting practice Saturday, but is expected to be back in the lineup for the Yankees on Monday.
Pitchers Ben Heller and Chad Bettis are dealing with back injuries of their own. Boone said that Heller should appear in a game within the next day or two, while Bettis has resumed his throwing program, though there is no timetable on when he might take the mound for game action.
