It has been 20 years since the Yankees were crowned World Series champions during the 1998 season. But when the team recognizes the anniversary on Saturday at Yankee Stadium, Derek Jeter won't be there.
Before the game, an on-field reunion will occur, with Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez, Paul O'Neill, David Cone, Darryl Strawberry, and former manager Joe Torre.
The only key cogs from that '98 team who won't be there are Jeter and Scott Brosius, who is a coach for the Mariners.
Brosius has a responsibility as part of an on-field operation with the Mariners, but Jeter is simply presiding over a team that is in rebuild mode. It seems he could've taken one day to be part of a celebration that recognizes one of the best teams in Yankees history.
While Jeter won't be there, he (and Brosius) have both recorded video messages for the fans.
