The Yankees placed designated hitter Kendrys Morales on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain on Thursday.
The 35-year-old Morales, who joined the Yankees on the heels of losing Greg Bird, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton for extended periods of time, was hitting .177/.320/.242 with one home run and five RBIs in 19 games since joining New York.
The Yankees are expected to have Stanton and Judge return from the IL soon, as Stanton has hit four home runs in the past three games of a rehab assignment, while Judge is expected to begin a rehab stint with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre over the weekend.
Jacoby Ellsbury, Miguel Andujar and Troy Tulowitzki are other position players on the Yankees' IL. Luis Severino, Dellin Betances, Jordan Montgomery and Jonathan Loaisiga are among the pitchers who have been out due to injury.
In place of Morales, the Yankees recalled outfielder Mike Tauchman and LHP Nestor Cortes Jr. from the minors.
Tauchman, 28, hit .211/.306/.411 with four homers and 13 RBIs in 34 games with New York this year. In 22 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, he was hitting .296/.327/.521 with one home run and 12 RBIs.
