Who is starting for the Yankees?
RHP Masahiro Tanaka (10-8, 4.42 ERA), whose two starts against the Red Sox this season have been anything but effective. He first faced them this season in London on June 29, when he allowed six runs without getting out of the first inning. Then, on July 25, Boston got to him for a staggering 12 runs on 12 hits in 3.1 innings. Tanaka suffered the loss in his last start but pitched well, pitching six innings against the Rangers and allowing two runs on seven hits.
Who is starting for the Red Sox?
RHP Rick Porcello (12-11, 5.63 ERA), who has failed to regain the form which led to his Cy Young Award-winning season in 2016. Coincidentally, Porcello has opposed Tanaka both times he's faced the Red Sox this season. He also struggled in London on June 29, only recording one out after allowing six runs on five hits. His start on July 25 was much better, when he allowed three runs on six hits over six innings for the win.
This four-game series will wrap up Monday at 7:10 p.m., when James Paxton (12-6, 4.16 ERA) takes on Eduardo Rodriguez (17-5, 3.81 ERA).
