The disabled list is a thing of the past.
ESPN reported Thursday that MLB is renaming the disabled list the "injured list." It's doing this, according to the report, because of concern that disabilities and injuries could be viewed similarly.
There won't be any changes to the list's rules. Starting with the 2017 season, the league changed the 15-day DL to 10 days. A seven-day concussion DL was instituted for the start of the 2011 season.
The 10-day injured list could be changed. The ESPN report says MLB expressed in recent negotiations a desire to return to a 15-day injured list. The players' union might be amenable to a 15-day injured list for pitchers while keeping the 10-day list for position players.
