Yankees OF Brett Gardner could be a fit for the Orioles, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.
Heyman notes that the O's would likely want the Yankees to pay down some of Gardner's remaining salary, which is $26 million through 2018.
The 33-year-old hit .261 with a .351 OBP and .362 SLG while stealing 16 bases in 148 games last year.
The Orioles are kidding themselves if they believe the Yankees would kick in salary for Gardner. Making a trade within the division is difficult to pull off, but to then add cash to a deal seems far-fetched to me.
While some Yankees fans are ready to see Gardner leave, his contract is not prohibitive, which is why New York gets calls on him in the first place. If the Yankees find a deal for Gardner, I would suspect GM Brian Cashman will look to release the club of the entire contract. This is especially true if Gardner was to bring back a middle to back end of the rotation starter with a similar salary; the type of piece I believe he can help acquire.
