The Yankees, after adding Gerrit Cole and watching the Red Sox trade Mookie Betts and David Price to the Dodgers, are expected to run away with the AL East in 2020.
PECOTA's annual projections came out on Tuesday, and their 2020 standings have the Yanks doing just that.
The PECOTA projections, which are often on the more conservative side when it comes to win totals, have New York winning 99 games and winning the division by 12 games over the second-place Rays.
The Red Sox are projected to finish 85-78.
Check out the full AL East standings below...
PECOTA projects the Twins to finish first in the AL Central with 93 wins and the Astros to take the AL West with 98 wins.
When it comes to the National League, PECOTA has the Mets winning the NL East with 88 wins, the Reds taking the NL Central, and the Dodgers running and hiding in the NL West.
PECOTA explains its projection system in full here, but here's a snippet:
Please remember that PECOTA and our simulations do not "pick" a team to "win" any particular number of games. Rather, they identify an estimated range of games a team might win and tells you the average of that fairly wide range. That is the point of the visualizations. Any one of those outcomes is possible. However, some of them, as you can see, are more likely than others.
