It had been expected for most of Spring Training that INF/OF Tyler Wade would make the Yankees' 25-man roster. Instead, the Yanks optioned Wade to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday, paving the way for a newcomer to make the 25-man roster.
With Wade optioned, the expectation now is that 28-year-old OF Mike Tauchman -- acquired via trade from the Rockies on Saturday -- will make it.
Tauchman has hit .153/.265/.203 with zero homers in 52 games during two stints in the majors spanning 2017 and 2018.
With Triple-A Albuquerque in 2018, Tauchman hit .323/.408/.571 with 20 homers in 112 games.
Wade, 24, hit .167/.214/.273 with one homer in 36 games for the Yankees in 2018.
