The Red Sox have growing interest in Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton, according to a report from the Miami Herald.
The Herald says that talk between the Red Sox and Marlins "may be heating up" in advance of next week's GM meetings in Orlando. Other teams are interested in Stanton, including the Phillies, Cardinals and Giants.
The speculation is that Stanton would like to play on either coast (East or West), but has given no list of teams he would be most interested in. According to the report, Stanton has only mentioned that he wants to play for a winning team and does not want to be apart of a rebuilding process at this stage in his career.
The Red Sox are increasing their payroll and can afford to put the rest of Stanton's contract on their books.
Stanton hit 59 home runs (the most in the league) this past season, along with a .281 average and 132 RBI (a career high). He has played seven years in the MLB and has yet to reach the postseason.
