With an apparent need in starting pitching, the Pittsburgh Pirates are interested in Yankees RHP Nathan Eovaldi, a source told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
The Pirates' starters have a combined 4.83 ERA this season, which ranks them 12th in the National League in that category. On Friday, Pittsburgh moved LHP Jon Niese to the bullpen after he struggled with a 5.13 ERA in 18 starts.
Eovaldi, who has pitched out of the bullpen his last three outings, is 7-6 with a 5.11 ERA this year. He threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief Friday night against the Red Sox. He is scheduled to start Tuesday against the Orioles.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Friday on MLB Network Radio that the team is still deciding if it should be a buyer or seller at the non-waiver trade deadline.
