With the Mark Teixeira still dealing with the recovery from an earlier knee injury, Alex Rodriguez has worked out at first base for the Yankees, Rodriguez and Joe Girardi told reporters Friday.
Girardi said he would not be afraid to use Rodriguez at first on days in which the team is facing a left-handed starter, reports Nick Suss of MLB.com.
Rodriguez played two games last season at first base, but has occupied the designated hitter spot this season.
"Anytime you give the manager more options/flexibility is a good thing," Rodriguez told reporters after Friday night's loss to the Red Sox.
Rodriguez is hitting .221 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs so far this year.
