CC Sabathia has pitched in plenty of big games during his big league career, and he is confident that he and the Yankees can get things done in Game 5 of the ALDS.
"Just knowing these guys and the way we responded all year, this is a team that I felt like every time, whether it's in a game or coming up through the season, we had tough times or backs against the wall, I felt like we responded really well," Sabathia told reporters Tuesday night. "So I didn't see why we couldn't go home and play well and end up back here."
During his Game 2 start in Cleveland, Sabathia allowed four runs -- two earned -- on three hits over 5 2/3 innings in what amounted to a no-decision. In 20 appearances (19 starts) in the postseason, the veteran left-hander is 9-5 with a 4.47 ERA and 1.54 WHIP.
Manager Joe Girardi believes Sabathia will rise to the occasion on Wednesday night.
"I think he embraces it," the skipper said. "When he signs up for a season, this is what he signs up for, these types of games."
