Doesn't look like Clint Frazier is taking his demotion very well.
With Edwin Encarnacion joining the Yankees, the corresponding move was sending Frazier back down to Triple-A. Frazier admitted after the team's win that the demotion came as a surprise.
"It's a tough pill to swallow," he told reporters. "It's never fun, especially with how much I've felt like I've contributed to this team."
Frazier remained short and sweet with the media, as has been the case since voicing his frustrations with how the media has portrayed him dating back to him first getting traded to New York from Cleveland.
Well, speaking of media, Frazier decided to clear his Instagram account Sunday night in lieu of his demotion. His page was filled with his signature custom cleats and other Yankees photos. Now only two remain.
It is also worth noting that Frazier only follows Tyler Wade and Didi Gregorius from the Yankees. No Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, or any other teammates. Brandon Drury, a former Yankee and one of his best teammates down in Triple-A last season, is being followed by his account.
Could this be Frazier saying he believes he is about to leave New York? His name has long been involved in trade rumors, with a fully healthy Yankees outfield leaving him in a bench role.
GM Brian Cashman defended Frazier after his incident with the media during the latest Red Sox series, where he didn't feel like answering questions after a rough game. However, he will be looking for starting pitching before the deadline to shore up the rotation, and Frazier should be one of his top trade chips.
Finally getting regular playing time, Frazier has showcased why he was taken fifth overall in the 2013 MLB Draft. The 24-year-old is slashing .283/.330/.513 with 11 homers and 34 RBI over 53 games with the Yankees this season as more than just a replacement for Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
