What you need to know about Wednesday's game
1) Severino's 2 2/3 innings was the shortest outing of the season for the right-hander.
2) Gary Sanchez hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to put the Yankees on the board. The home run was Sanchez's first since June 20th against Seattle.
3) New York was only able to get five hits off of Oakland starter Mike Fiers. The Yankees left eight runners on base, including three left on base by Luke Voit.
4) The loss dropped the Yankees' lead over the A's in the American League Wild Card race to 3 1/2 games.
