Ticket prices are topping out at $9,999 on resale sites for the Yankees September 7 game against the Royals, which will feature a pregame send-off to the retiring Derek Jeter (Post, July 20).Demand for the tickets flew off the charts after the Yankees announced Friday that the ceremony would be that day, and as of Sunday there were no face-value tickets available on the Yankees website.“It’s a dramatic spike,” said Chris Matcovich, of the ticket-resale market aggregator TiqIQ in the NY Post. “The last time we saw an increase like this was when Jeter announced his retirement. We don’t see huge superstars like him retire often, so it is unusual,” he added.Even the cheapest bleacher seats saw a jump from $16 face-value to $200 on resale sites on Sunday. Though fans are upset with the hike in prices, the New York Yankees remain steadfast that they had no hand in the raised ticket prices.“The New York Yankees have not, did not, and will not raise any ticket prices for the game to be played in Yankee Stadium on September 7, or for that matter, any other game to be played at Yankee Stadium this season,” the Yankees said in the wake of the NY Post article (Daily News, July 20).
