Before the Yankees finished up their series with the Indians on Sunday, all hands were on deck to watch Luis Severino toss a sim game at Yankee Stadium.
GM Brian Cashman, manager Aaron Boone, and even players like Luke Voit were out watching Severino throw to three hitters. And as they all hoped, the session went well with Severino walking off with smiles.
"It felt good," Severino told The Daily News' Kristie Ackert. "I haven't been on a mound, a real mound, before so that was good."
Now Sevy will likely head down to Tampa this week to continue his rehab, and if more positive news follows each session, he could be seeing time in rehab games soon.
Severino, along with Dellin Betances who is progressing well alongside him, hasn't seen the field at all this season. The Yankees, though, are confident that he can provide them with quality innings hopefully at the end of the regular season leading up to the postseason. It is unknown if Severino will be used as a starter or a bullpen piece, but he has said he's open to whatever job that will help the team.
For now, seeing Severino continue to throw off the rubber without pain is the goal, and he did so again today. Check out some of his pitches below...
