It has been 20 years since the Yankees were crowned World Series champions during the 1998 season, which was one of the greatest in franchise history. In turn, the Bronx Bombers want to commemorate the feat.
During the weekend of August 17-19, the Yankees celebrate the victory first with a 1998 World Championship replica trophy that will be given out to the first 10,000 fans present at Yankee Stadium for the series opener against the Blue Jays.
But it is Saturday that is the big day, as an on-field reunion will occur before the game. Former players that are expected to be present include Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams, Tino Martinez, Paul O'Neill, David Cone, Darryl Strawberry, and former manager Joe Torre.
