The Yankees are targeting controllable starting pitchers at the trade deadline, and won't move Clint Frazier for a rental.
But one high-end arm that will not be available is Luis Castillo of the Reds, according to major league sources. Rumors surfaced this week linking Castillo to the Yankees.
Asked if Castillo might be traded, one American League executive in touch with the Reds texted: "Do u do stand up comedy in ur spare time ? That's hilarious ! Nfw !"
Castillo, 26, is under team control through 2022.
In his third season with Cincinnati, Castillo owns a 2.56 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over 91.1 innings (16 starts) thus far. He has also totaled 109 strikeouts already after collecting 165 punch-outs all of last season.
