After the Yankees dropped Game 1 of the ALDS to the Red Sox in Boston on Friday night, outfielder Brett Gardner wasn't mincing words about how important Game 2 is, calling it "pretty much a must-win game for us."
Masahiro Tanaka will get the start in Game 2 in Boston, opposed by David Price.
Gardner, who was the odd-man out entering the series, replaced Aaron Hicks in the fourth inning in Game 1 after Hicks left due to a hamstring issue.
The Yankees came back from an 0-2 ALDS deficit in 2017 to beat the Indians in five games. They also accomplished the feat in 2001 against the Athletics.
Of the 78 best-of-five series to start 2-0, 46 ended in sweeps, with only 10 of 78 teams coming back to win the series.
After Game 2 in Boston, the series shifts to the Bronx, with Luis Severino getting the start in Game 3 and CC Sabathia starting Game 4.
