The Yankees have acquired left-handed pitcher Joe Mantiply from the Reds in exchange for cash considerations, the team announced Friday. He will be assigned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and is not on the team's 40-man roster.
Mantiply, 28, spent the 2017 season with the Yankees organization, appearing in 35 games for Scranton. He went 6-5, posting a 2.83 ERA, allowing 18 walks and striking out 62 hitters over 70 innings. He missed all of 2018 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Mantiply got his lone major league experience in 2016 as a member of the Tigers organization. He appeared in five games but struggled, allowing five runs in just 2.2 innings pitched.
In 18 relief appearances for Triple-A Louisville this season, Mantiply has gone 1-0, striking out 26 and walking just three over 29 innings pitched.
