The Yankees acquired outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Cleveland Indians on Thursday for cash considerations after they placed their fifth outfielder on the injured list.
The 32-year-old Maybin, whom the Yankees pursued at the trade deadline last year but lost out to the Mariners, is slashing .229/.397/.292 with no home runs and five RBIs in 13 games with Cleveland's Triple-A affiliate this season. Last year, Maybin hit .249/.326/.336 with four home runs and 28 RBIs in 129 games with the Marlins and Mariners.
In his MLB career, Maybin has played 860 games at center field, 116 in left field and 34 in right field, which would give the Yankees versatility given their outfield on Wednesday consisted of Tyler Wade in left, Brett Gardner in center and Mike Tauchman in right.
New York placed Clint Frazier on the injured list Thursday morning, retroactive to April 23, with a partial tear in his ankle, an injury that is supposed to keep him off the field for 10-14 days.
The Yankees' injured list also consists of Aaron Judge (oblique), Aaron Hicks (back), Giancarlo Stanton (biceps/shoulder) and Jacoby Ellsbury (hip surgery).
