With the 2019 trade deadline looming and the Yankees' starting rotation spiraling, the pitching staff took another blow on Sunday as the team placed lefty CC Sabathia on the 10-day injured list.
The team announced that Sabathia is dealing with inflammation in his previously injured right knee once again.
In a corresponding move, the New York recalled infielder Tyler Wade from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders.
On Saturday the Yankees suffered their third-straight loss to their rival, the Boston Red Sox, and Sabathia struggled on the mound. Sabathia allowed five runs in 4.1 innings.
Following the game, Sabathia dodged a question in regard to his knee's health.
"No, I'm not going to make excuses. I'm out there. I'm expected to get outs," Sabathia said.
Sabathia, who will retire following this season, is 5-6 overall with a 4.78 ERA in 17 games this season.
