The Yankees may be getting one of their big bats back very soon.
Gary Sanchez caught a bullpen session with J.A. Happ on Friday, a step forward in his way back from a left calf strain that put him on the 10-day IL.
He also took batting practice, ran and played catch for the second straight day and told reporters he hopes to play in rehab games soon and that he is just waiting on doctor's orders for that.
Manager Aaron Boone anticipates that Sanchez will need at least one rehab game under his belt. He is eligible to return from the IL on Sunday and the Yankees head out for a West Coast road trip on Monday.
Sanchez was among the Yankees' hottest hitters before landing on the IL. He has a team-high six home runs and is hitting a slashline of .268/.333/.732 with 11 RBI.
