The Yankees put potential batting title champ Gio Urshela on the 10-day injured list on Friday. He's focusing on allowing his strained groin to heal and the playoffs, not a potential run at the batting title.
Currently batting .331, Urshela might not hit the minimal number required to qualify for the award after going on the IL. But he doesn't care.
"It's more important to win games," Urshela said to the New York Daily News.
But on that note, Urshela also didn't sound too concerned about the injury.
"I don't want it to get worse. The next couple days," Urshela said.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone isn't either, making the IL move sound more like a precautionary one.
"I think Sunday in Boston would be the first day he's eligible, and I'm looking at it as it's a real possibility," Boone said."It feels like something that's probably a few days, but with an off day (Thursday) and an off day coming (Thursday) and just the time of year it is, he's a little banged up anyway, so it's probably the best thing for him and for us to do this now and make sure this doesn't become a lingering issue."
Currently Urshela's teammate, DJ LeMahieu, leads the race for the batting title with a .335 average.
