ESPN has been having all-access interviews during its spring training broadcasts, and though there's only been two games where players are mic'd up, some jabs are already being taken at the Astros and Red Sox for sign stealing.
It was Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo on Monday referencing the Astros' trash can banging while at the plate, and on Tuesday during the Yankees-Red Sox broadcast, LHP Zack Britton had his own comment to make when color commentator Alex Rodriguez asked what the veteran reliever is working on in spring training with his pitches.
Trash cans huh..🤣🤣😂🤣🤣 man lmaoo "oh no you britton" pic.twitter.com/v4nMhcO3F0- Pinstripe Strong (@PinstripeStrong) March 3, 2020
"You guys got the Red Sox on this broadcast? They know what's coming or what? Are you feeding them anything?" Britton responded with a smile.
Boston, of course, is currently under investigation for their own sign-stealing scandal. The Astros were already found guilty for their sign stealing during the 2017 season, in which they would go on to win the World Series.
Joking or not, this is just another case where the Yankees simply don't care to hold back their thoughts about sign stealing. Players like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Aroldis Chapman have spoken out about how the Astros should have their title stripped among many other things.
But, with teams like New York trying to move forward from this unfortunate event in the game, trolling comments like Britton's will likely come up here and there before the regular season gets underway.
