Andy Martino, SNY.tv | Twitter | A few weeks ago, in the days leading up to the trade deadline, the press dining room at Yankee Stadium was packed with scouts, as it always is that time of year. One night at dinner, a guy working for an American League club with pitching to trade said of the Yanks, "This is a team that can win the World Series right now."
He meant that the Yankees young position players were in bloom, the new manager was a natural, and all aspects of the club seemed to be clicking. This scout's contention was, as long as the Yanks added a starting pitcher, they were finally back to being championship-caliber.
Well, they later added two starting pitchers in J.A. Happ and Lance Lynn, and a high-end reliever in Zach Britton. And it didn't end up being enough to stop the slow fizzle of that championship mojo...
