Yankees pitcher Aroldis Chapman has been named the Mariano Rivera American League Reliever of the Year. He'll be presented with the award prior to Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday.
Chapman was named to the All-Star team for the sixth time in his career in 2019 and finished the season with 37 saves (one shy of his career high), a 2.21 ERA and 85 strikeouts in 57 innings.
The left-hander is the second Yankee to win the award, which was introduced in 2014 when MLB began giving a Reliever of the Year honor to each league. Andrew Miller earned the title in 2015.
Chapman finished ahead of fellow finialists Liam Hendriks amd Roberto Osuna. With this award on the mantel, he now faces the decision of whether to opt out of the remaining two years of his contract or remain in pinstripes.
