Just a day removed from his short outing, the Yankees have put CC Sabathia on the 10-day injured list, the team announced on Saturday.

Against the Oakland Athletics on Friday, Sabathia left eventual 8-2 loss after three innings because his right knee injury flared up again. He allowed just one hit before being pulled.

Sabathia was flexing his knee after a pitch in the third and short time later the team announced he was leaving the game. Following the contest, Sabathia commented on his nagging injury.

"It just got bad again. Threw a pitch to (Semien) in the third inning and just felt a lot of pain," Sabathia said. "We'll have to wait and see how it is tomorrow, but planning on draining it tomorrow and maybe a cortisone shot ..."

Skipper Aaron Boone said the Yankees would evaluate the 39-year-old on Saturday morning, which likely led to the IL move.

"We'll kind of see how it is overnight. I could tell kind of early on tonight that he was struggling with it," Boone said after Friday's game. "The warrior he is, he pitches as effectively as he did. Even in that third inning, it felt apparent to me.

The lefty was making his third start since his most recent stint on the IL. He pitched just 10 innings total in those three outings.

Sabathia hopes to return from the injury this before the year is out.

"It's frustrating for sure, because I feel like I can still get outs and help the team. That's the hardest part is not being able to be out there, and then when I'm out there I'm not performing, so it's frustrating."

In a corresponding move, the Yankees recalled righty Jonathan Loaisiga from Triple-A Scranton.

Loaisiga, 24, has made three start for the Yankees this season. He's 1-1 and his a 5.12 ERA in 19.1 innings pitched.

On Friday, the Yankees also moved Gio Urshela (groin) to the 10-day IL. That was the 29th time the Yanks moved a player to the list this year, which set the MLB single-season record.
