The Blue Jays brought it down to the wire, but struck a deal with the Indians to trade for 3B Josh Donaldson. But there were other teams talking to Toronto before the trade was ultimately set in stone.
One of those teams were the Yankees, according to FanCred Sports' Jon Heyman. The Cardinals and Braves were also looking into a potential trade scenario.
The Yankees didn't necessarily need Donaldson, especially with Miguel Andujar owning a hot bat at the moment. But Donaldson does have first base experience, and with Greg Bird struggling, it may have sparked interest in the former All-Star.
Donaldson is having a down year, though. Injury has ravaged his season, only making an appearance in 36 games. He owns a .234/.333/.423 slash line with five homers and 16 RBI over that span. He is currently on the DL with a left calf injury.
