The Yankees have signed LHP Tommy Layne to a Major League contract, and have optioned LHP Richard Bleier to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the team announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Red Sox designated Layne for assignment last week and then released him. The 31-year old had a 3.77 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 7.8 K/9 in 28.2 innings for Boston this season.
For his career, Layne has a 3.21 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 115 K in 120.2 innings.
Bleier had a 3.38 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 13.1 innings for the Yankees in 2016.
In addition to adding Layne, the Yankees have claimed RHP Blake Parker off waivers from Seattle. Parker has been placed on the 40-man roster and will be added to the 25-man roster upon reporting.
Parker pitched only one inning for the Mariners in 2016, allowing one hit, one walk and no runs against Boston on Aug. 4. Parker is 2-3 with a 3.63 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 74.1 innings for his career.
