Greg Bird did his best to gain ground on Luke Voit in the competition for first base, hitting a three-run home run in the first inning of the Yankees' rain-shortened 10-4 loss Wednesday against the Tigers in Lakeland. The game was called after six innings.

Things to know about Wednesday's game

1. Bird was the DH while Voit played first base. Bird drove in Miguel Andujar and Gleyber Torres with his homer while finishing 1-for-2. Voit, who homered and had four RBI on Sunday, went 0-for-1 with a walk Wednesday. Voit is 2-for-4 this spring while Bird is 3-for-5.

2. Chance Adams struggled mightily in his Spring Training debut, unable to get out of the first inning. He allowed five runs on four hits and a walk in just 1/3 of an inning. He began the frame by allowing a walk, a single, a two-run double, another RBI double and an RBI triple.

3. Torres, who was starting at shortstop for the first time this spring after two starts at second base, singled in the first and finished 1-for-2. He should continue to see some time at short as he'll likely spell Troy Tulowitzki at times until Didi Gregorius is recovered from Tommy John surgery.

4. Now armed with a new seven-year contract, Aaron Hicks led the game off with a double and scored on a Josh Harrison throwing error. Clint Frazier went 0-for-2.

5. RHP Domingo Acevedo, ranked as the Yankees' 23rd-best prospect by MLB Pipeline, gave up five runs in the third inning and recorded just two outs. He walked Harrison with the bases loaded before giving up a grand slam to Christin Stewart.
