Every Monday, we'll be taking a look at how the Yankees' top prospects (their MLB.com Yankees Top-30 rankings are in parenthesis) are faring.
Deivi Garcia, RHP, Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (No. 1, MLB No. 64) -- ETA 2020
Garcia was moved to the bullpen, with many believing it was in preparation for a potential promotion to the bigs to see what he could give the Yankees in September. In his first appearance in his new role, Garcia allowed one earned run on three hits, while striking out five and walking one over two innings of work. Not bad for his first outing.
Estevan Florial, OF, High-A Tampa (No. 2, MLB No. 65) -- ETA 2021
Florial had a boring week at the plate, going 3-for-20 with three singles and just one run scored to show for his time on base. This has been the case with Florial for awhile now, with his slash line at .236/.299/.384 over 70 games down in Tampa.
Clarke Schmidt, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 5) -- ETA 2020
Schmidt was promoted to Double-A last week, and he had a tough start after allowing five earned on nine hits over 5.1 innings. But he bounced right back on Aug. 21, tossing 6.2 innings of scoreless ball, allowing just two hits and striking out nine over that span.
Albert Abreu, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 7) -- ETA 2020
Abreu allowed two runs on five hits and two walks over three innings on Aug. 23, while striking out three as well. Abreu has been relatively consistent lately, as the Yankees are controlling his innings late in the season.
Roansy Contreras, RHP, Low-A Charleston (No. 13) -- ETA 2022
The righty allowed two runs on three hits (one homer) while striking out five and walking one over six innings of work on Aug. 20. This came after a solid outing of one-run ball over seven innings. Over 22 starts this season (120.1 innings), Contreras has a 3.59 ERA and 3.74 FIP.
Alexander Vizcaino, RHP, High-A Tampa (No. 14) -- ETA 2022
Vizcaino was roughed up in his latest outing, allowing five runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings. He had a problem giving up free passes, too, with four walks credited to his stat line. The 22-year-old has a 4.28 ERA in five starts since being promoted to High-A.
Nick Nelson, RHP, Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (No. 15) -- ETA 2020
Nelson had a solid start last time out, going six innings while allowing two runs on seven hits. He also struck out six and walked two over that span. This was Nelson's second start since his Triple-A promotion, as he now has 11 innings under his belt at that level. He had a 2.35 ERA with Trenton this season.
Trevor Stephan, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 16) -- ETA 2019
Stephan performed well in his latest outing, going four innings without allowing a run on four hits while striking out seven on Aug. 19. He's been great since returning to Double-A on Aug. 14.
Michael King, RHP, Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (No. 20) -- ETA 2019
King allowed two runs on four hits (one homer) while giving up three free passes, but he did strike out a season-high 11 hitters over 6.2 innings. This outing was better than his Triple-A debut on Aug. 16 where he let up five earned over six innings.
