Every Monday, we'll be taking a look at how the Yankees' top prospects (their MLB.com Yankees Top-30 rankings are in parenthesis) are faring.
Estevan Florial, OF, High-A Tampa (No. 1, MLB No. 46) -- ETA 2021
Florial is mired in a slump, which has him hitting .176 (6-for-34) over his last 10 games. During the stretch, Florial has struck out 12 times and has failed to draw a walk, bringing his ratio of strikeouts to walks for the season to 56:10. As a result, Florial has generated a disappointing .619 OPS.
Deivi Garcia, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 4) -- ETA 2020
After winning his first start with the RailRiders, Garcia followed it up with a short effort lasting just three innings due to command issues. Garcia walked four batters and allowed three hits, but limited Louisville to one run over three innings. Garcia is pitching at his third level of the season, and there remains an outside chance that he could see time in the big leagues before the season is out.
Albert Abreu, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 4) -- ETA 2020
Abreu got the win in his start Tuesday, tossing seven innings of two-run ball. Abreu scattered eight hits and walked a batter, while striking out seven. The 23-year-old owns a 3.72 ERA and 1.58 WHIP across 82 1/3 innings for the Thunder this season.
Clarke Schmidt, RHP, High-A Tampa (No. 5) -- ETA 2020
Despite allowing just one unearned run, Schmidt took the loss in his second start back with Tampa since completing a three-game rehab assignment in the Gulf Coast League. In the start, Clarke filled the strike zone, throwing 40 of his 54 pitches for strikes, while allowing just three batters to reach base. In 42 innings with Tampa, the Yankees first-round pick from the 2017 draft owns a solid 3.21 ERA with 45 strikeouts.
Anthony Seigler, C, Low-A Charleston (No. 6) -- ETA 2022
Seigler, who had just three hits in his last 33 at-bats, hit the injured list on July 20 with an undisclosed injury. In 30 games, Seigler is hitting .175 with a .328 on-base percentage and .206 slugging percentage.
Trevor Stephan, RHP, High-A Trenton (No. 8) -- ETA 2019
Stephan has yet to find a groove this season, even after being demoted to Tampa. The right-hander allowed three runs on six hits and a walk over 4 2/3 innings in his last start. After allowing hitters to record a .280 batting average against him while with Double-A Trenton, FSL batters are torching Stephan to the tune of a .318 average.
Antonio Cabello, OF, Rookie Advanced Pulaski (No. 9) -- ETA 2022
Over his last 10 games, Cabello has recored just six hits in 39 at-bats. The 18-year-old is hitting .198 with a .264 on-base percentage and .342 slugging percentage in 122 plate appearances.
Roansy Contreras, RHP, Low-A Charleston (No. 10) -- ETA 2022
In his last start, Contreras worked five innings in a no-decision, allowing one run on three hits and two walks. Contreras struck out five in the contest and has lowered his ERA from 4.81 to 4.33 over his last four starts (22 innings).
Nick Nelson, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 11) -- ETA 2020
Nelson continued a strong stretch, hurling five scoreless innings en route to his fourth win of the season. Nelson allowed five baserunners (three hits and two walks) while striking out five hitters. In 50 innings, Nelson possesses a strong 2.88 ERA with a 1.36 WHIP and 67 strikeouts.
Luis Gil, RHP, Low-A Charleston (No. 13) -- ETA 2022
Gil's pitch count - 83, with just 48 strikes - led to an early exit in his most recent start. Still, Gil was able to limit the damage to just one run in 3 2/3 innings, in which he struck out six hitters. Gil has 112 strikeouts in 83 innings for the RiverDogs.
