The Yankees are interested in acquiring left-handed reliever Justin Wilson, reports Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press.
Wilson, who spent 2015 with the Yankees, was traded from New York to Detroit for Chad Green and Luis Cessa at the end of that season. In 74 games in New York, he owned 3.10 ERA and struck out 66 in 61 innings.
In 41 games this season with the Tigers, the 29-year-old has a 2.75 ERA with 55 strikeouts while recording 12 saves since taking over the closer's role. Wilson has a 3.21 ERA ERA in 317 career games.
Even after acquiring three players from the White Sox earlier in July, GM Brian Cashman said the Yankees would remain "careful buyers" leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
