Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez will begin a rehab assignment on Thursday, GM Brian Cashman told SNY Contributor Jim Duquette Tuesday on MLB Network Radio.
Cashman added that there is also "work behind the scenes" going on regarding Sanchez' defense.
Sanchez, who has only appeared in three games since June 24 due to a strained groin, ran the bases and took squats behind home plate last week.
The 25-year-old has just a .188/.283/.416 batting line with 14 home runs and 42 RBI in 66 games this season after hitting .278/.345/.531 with 33 homers in 2017.
Aside from Sanchez, the Yankees are currently without Aaron Judge (wrist), and just lost Didi Gregorius (foot).
