New Jersey Devils defenseman Brendan Smith has been suspended two games for slashing Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny during Thursday’s game, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced on Friday.

The incident happened at 17:07 in the third period after Konecny hit Smith across the back with his stick as Smith was skating toward the bench.

Smith was assessed a two-minute minor for the incident while Konecny did not receive a penalty.
