The Jets announced on Monday night that first-round 2020 NFL Draft pick Mekhi Becton has signed his rookie deal. Becton also posted on Twitter showing his excitement as he inked his new contract.
SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano confirmed that Becton’s contract is a fully guaranteed $18.45 million over those first four seasons with Gang Green. His signing bonus was worth $11 million.
Becton’s signing comes the day before Jets rookies are expected at training camp in Florham Park, but he wasn’t the only signee. Third-round DE Jabari Zuniga, fourth-round QB James Morgan and sixth-round P Braden Mann also signed.
And so starts the journey of these rookies in New York, with Becton having the bigger spotlight due to his No. 11 overall pick status. The 6-foot-7, 364-pound tackle will most likely be a starter when Week 1 comes around with the Jets’ revamped offensive line protecting Sam Darnold.
In camp, Becton should be battling free agent newcomer George Fant for that left tackle position, though he likely has the upper hand. Still, it will be fun to watch Becton and the rest of the rookies fight for their jobs before the season gets underway.
