The Mets have claimed catcher/outfielder Cooper Hummel off waivers from the Mariners and catcher Tyler Heineman off waivers from the Blue Jays, the team announced.
Both players will be added to the Mets' 40-man roster, which now stands at 32 and will be at 33 once their signing of Luis Severino is official.
The 29-year-old Hummel made his big league debut for the Diamondbacks in 2022 and spent time with the Mariners in 2023.
He has struggled offensively during his limited major league opportunities, with a .166/.264/.286 triple slash in 227 plate appearances over 76 games.
His career numbers in the minors are much better, with him having hit .264/.399/.443 in seven seasons.
Hummel is a versatile defensive player who has the ability to play first base and both corner outfield spots in addition to catcher.
He was drafted by the Brewers -- and then-GM David Stearns -- in the 18th round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
Heineman, 32, hit .237/.383/.316 in 47 plate appearances over 22 games this past season for the Pirates and Jays.
During his four-year career, which also includes stints with the Marlins and Giants, he has slashed .218/.297/.282 in 104 games.
