Irving ended up having a subpar night, shooting 6-of-17 for 16 points in Brooklyn's 125-119 loss, and he was asked about the Boston crowd afterwards.
"It’s basketball. I’ve been in a few environments in my life," Irving said. "Like I said, as long as it’s just strictly the nature of basketball out there and there’s nothing extra, I’m cool with it."
Following the Nets’ Game 2 win earlier this week, Irving was asked about going back to Boston, saying that he hoped the crowd’s jeers would stick to “strictly basketball” and not “subtle racism.”
“It’s not my first time being an opponent in Boston, so I’m just looking forward to competing with my teammates, and hopefully we can just keep it strictly basketball, there’s no belligerence or any racism going on, subtle racism and people yelling s—t from the crowd,” Irving said after Game 2.
Game 4 in Boston is set for Sunday at 7 p.m., with the Celtics looking to even things up.
