The Rangers continue working to lock up their own early on this offseason.
New York has already been in talks with restricted free agent Will Cuylle about a potential contract extension, according to Peter Baugh of the Athletic.
Signing the 23-year-old has been one of the team’s biggest priorities, coming off a campaign in which he took tremendous strides forward with his game on both ends of the ice.
His physicality and offensive prowess make him an ideal fit for this club moving forward.
Cuylle earned the Steven McDonald Extra Effort award this past season, after finishing with a career-high 20 goals, 25 assists, 45 points, 152 shots on goal, and 301 hits while appearing in all 82 games.
He’s projected to receive a bit of a raise on a new three-year deal.
Cuylle was viewed as a potential candidate for teams to target with an offer sheet, but according to Baugh, the chances of that have presumably decreased significantly after the Chris Kreider trade to the Ducks.
