The Rangers had long been rumored as a possible trade destination for disgruntled Buffalo Sabres star Jack Eichel, but the Eichel ship has finally sailed.

The Sabres have traded Eichel and a 2023 third-round draft pick to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for F Peyton Krebs, F Alex Tuch, a 2022 first-round pick, and a 2023 third-round pick, reports TSN.

Eichel has not played for Buffalo this season.

Sabres GM Kevyn Adams said after Eichel failed his physical before the season that there was still a dispute between Eichel and the team over potential surgery for his neck injury.

In addition to the medical situation with Eichel, the Sabres stripped him of his captaincy.

During the offseason, USA TODAY's Vince Mercogliano reported that Rangers president and GM Chris Drury was unlikely to budge on adding certain players to a package for Eichel.

Meanwhile, the New York Post's Larry Brooks reported that the Sabres wanted "at least four pieces that would be equivalent of first-rounders."

The 25-year-old Eichel has $50 million remaining on his contract over the next five years.
