But the schedule they're about to face won't make it easy if they wish to break their seven-year playoff drought.
That's why team president Leon Rose and the rest of the front office could be looking at some teams heading into the March 25 NBA trade deadline, seeing if there will be anyone available that could help propel their roster to the next level.
Because of this, SNY's Ian Begley suggests that fans keep an eye out for Pelicans sharpshooter JJ Redick.
A report from The Athletic stated that New Orleans was fielding calls on Redick, who was focusing on going to a team close to his Brooklyn home. The Nets made that list, of course, but with the addition of Blake Griffin, they seem to be set at the moment. Joe Harris, James Harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are all sharpshooters, so there is really no need for him there.
The Philadelphia 76ers, then, are prime candidates along with the Knicks. They could use an extra shooter as they look to control the Eastern Conference in the second half.
But the Knicks could definitely use the veteran three-point specialist with their averages from three-point land lower than most teams in the league. The Knicks are second-to-last in three pointers attempted per game, though they're 12th in the league in three-point field goal percentage.
The 36-year-old Redick is only averaging 36.4 percent from beyond the arc this season, attempting 4.5 shots a game from the perimeter. But he’s only averaging 18.6 minutes per game. The Knicks may be able to offer him more, which could help his rhythm.
While no talks are imminent, it’s worth keeping an eye on as teams approach tough decisions before the deadline passes.
