Giants quarterback Eli Manning orchestrated his 36th career game-winning drive in Monday's 27-23 comeback win over the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium.
"It meams a lot," Manning said. "That's what I told the guys this week. We've worked too hard not to be rewarded with wins. ... We just weren't able to get some of the outcomes or make the plays we needed to win. Today we were able to do that."
Manning, who threw for 188 yards and three touchdowns, capped a nine-play, 75-yard, penalty-ridden drive with a go-ahead touchdown pass to Sterling Shepard in the left side of the end zone as the Giants came off the bye week and won for the first time since Week 3.
After the 49ers' Robbie Gould kicked a 30-yard field goal that broke a 20-20 tie, Manning drove the Giants downfield beginning with a 31-yard pass to tight end Evan Engram to get beyond midfield.
A defensive pass interference penalty on second-and-20 with 1:41 left got them to the San Francisco 35, and Manning then threw a short pass to Saquon Barkley, who ran out of bounds for a 23-yard gain. After a nine-yard completion to Engram, he found Shepard in the end zone for an acrobatic catch with 53 seconds remaining.
"I just saw man-to-man coverage," Shepard said. "That's something we've been practicing. I was able to capture the outside edge and Eli put the ball in a perfect place."
It was hardly Manning's most impressive game -- his 188 passing yards were a season low -- however his three touchdowns were his most since Week 15 against the Eagles last season.
Manning threw two touchdowns to Odell Beckham Jr. earlier in the game, finding him wide open in the back of the end zone for a 10-yard touchdown in the first quarter and then hitting him on the run down the left sideline early in the third quarter.
