Jets CB Trumaine Johnson was absent from practice on Wednesday, and it wasn't due to injury.
Instead, head coach Todd Bowles told reporters Johnson was out due to an "in-house matter that we're dealing with." Bowles wouldn't delve into that matter, but when asked if he would be on the field for the Jets' season finale against the Patriots on Sunday, he replied "we'll see."
After the Jets' tough loss on Sunday to the Packers in overtime, Johnson quickly made his way out of the locker room, ditching the media. He had a crucial pass interference on third and 10 in overtime that pushed the Packers downfield instead of punting for the Jets to take over with the chance to win. Aaron Rodgers would eventually throw a game-winning touchdown to Davante Adams for the comeback victory.
Johnson didn't duck the media this time, but like Bowles, he wouldn't get into the conversation he had that forced him off the practice field.
"Me and the head man talked about it," he said. "That's between us."
He does expect to play Sunday, though, saying "of course" when asked the question.
The 28-year-old cornerback was signed to a five-year, $72.5 million deal by the Jets this past offseason. If he misses this final game, it would be his sixth game not suiting up this season after missing five straight weeks (Week 5-9) with a quad injury.
When he has been on the field this season, Johnson has been solid. He has totaled 40 combined tackles, four interceptions (one pick-six), one fumble recovery, and five passes defended. That production has earned from a 74.9 Pro Football Focus grade thus far.
